Growth Mindset

Learning Goals:

  1. A growth mindset is the idea that you can get better at things by practicing.
  2. A fixed mindset is the ideas that you have a fixed amount of ability that you can't really change.
  3. Research has found that practicing skills can literally rewire your brain and expand the size of relevant parts of your brain.
  4. Joking that Asian people are naturally good at CS can:
    1. Reinforce a fixed mindset.
    2. Discount the hard work that Asian students put into CS.
    3. Put undue pressure on Asian students to perform well.
    4. Imply a racial hierarchy of who is good and bad at CS.
