Growth Mindset
Learning Goals:
- A growth mindset is the idea that you can get better at things by practicing.
- A fixed mindset is the ideas that you have a fixed amount of ability that you can't really change.
- Research has found that practicing skills can literally rewire your brain and expand the size of relevant parts of your brain.
- Joking that Asian people are naturally good at CS can:
- Reinforce a fixed mindset.
- Discount the hard work that Asian students put into CS.
- Put undue pressure on Asian students to perform well.
- Imply a racial hierarchy of who is good and bad at CS.
