Tutoring Close to the Deadline

Learning Goals:

  1. If someone appears to have more work than they have time before the deadline, you should tell them that this in a kind way.
  2. Sometimes when someone starts to cry, they might prefer that you just ignore it. You can ask if they want to take a break or keep talking.
  3. If a student gets angry with you, you can tell them you can’t help them at this time. We don’t want you to stay in a bad circumstance.
  4. Sleep is important for learning and spacing out practice is helpful.
  5. Procrastination is not laziness, it is mainly a response to our feelings about doing a task. Encouraging a student to get started earlier might be helpful, but it is NOT helpful to critique or shame students for not starting earlier.
